Everything began in 2021. Joletta De Smedt and I started making plans together for a new ensemble. There is always a touch of euphoria in starting something new. We immersed ourselves in Renaissance music. Music for Margaret was the first program. Others followed. But curiosity kept driving us: are we not all the product of countless building blocks from the past?
Because of the choice of instruments, we are limited, but whatever is possible we must embrace. The step toward the Baroque was therefore a natural one. Renaissance and Baroque— two great musical periods, each with its own unique emotional world, both deeply rooted in our DNA. It is important that we tend to both with love. It is enriching and refreshing.
And so we search for how far we can go with our instruments to truly feel the richness of our past.
I am happy and grateful to be a musician.
